Robben will stay at Stamford |
Jose Mourinho has quashed speculation that Arjen Robben will be sold to Real Madrid and claims the winger is staying. The 23-year-old did not play in Chelsea's 1-0 pre-season win over LA Galaxy on Saturday, fuelling speculation he is set to join the Spanish giants after Ramon Calderon confirmed his interest.
But the Blues boss insists the Dutchman's omission was due to a knee injury and not because the winger will soon be heading for the Bernabeu. The Chelsea news also reported that Robben will be signing a new contract to stay at Stamford for 5 years more and denied all speculations of his transfer to Real.
Robben who just played as 2nd team for Jose's squad last season will be competing for his position with the new signing Florent Malouda this season but Jose claimes that Robben will not be reluctant to play as a first team together with Malouda. |
