Tal Ben Haim - New chelsea's defender |
Israel international Ben Haim completed a move to Chelsea on a free transfer in June 2007, turning down the chance to link up again with former manager Sam Allardyce at Newcastle United.
The central defender was out of contract at Bolton Wanderers and moved to Stamford Bridge after a mooted move in the January transfer window didn't materialise as Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich refused to loosen the purse strings.
Ben Haim did not move to Chelsea to become an automatic first choice, but to add much needed strength to a back line which was often stretched in 2006/07.
The player moved in England in July 2004 for a small, undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £150,000. He moved to Bolton from Maccabi Tel Aviv and signed a three-year contract after spending two weeks on trial at the Lancashire club.
He moved to the Premiership as a championship winner with Maccabi. |
